There is an invisible, yet very real line above which you will rarely find a snake. Snakes cannot climb above this line.
Early settlers in America referred to this line as “the snake line”. Often, when they were purchasing a property, they would ask the seller whether or not the property was above “the snake line.”

Just as the Lord has drawn an invisible line in the mountains which the snakes can’t pass, there is also a spiritual “snake line”

“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; …” Galatians 5:19-21

The lower ground is a place of sin, judgement, weariness, exhaustion, hopelessness, sorrow, rejection, competition, confusion, stress, anxiety and pain. It is a place of broken hearts, shattered dreams, ruined relationships, and troubled minds. But because of what Christ accomplished on the cross we no longer need to live in this place but live above the snake line in the place of grace – His favour and empowerment.

“For he has rescued us out of the darkness and gloom of Satan’s kingdom and brought us into the Kingdom of his dear Son” Colossians 1:13-14

We know where “the snake line” is. And we know where the Lord wants us to be. Sadly so often we choose to live below the lofty place we have been invited to in Christ.

What is above “the snake line?”
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

The snake will always slither on its belly in the dirt, that is his comfort zone and that is where he wants to keep us. The devil wants to pull us down but God is the lifter of our heads.

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:1

Climb up higher. Seek those things that aid you to climb above “the snake-line.”

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Set your face toward the Son of God and climb ever higher. Live in Heavenly Places with Him.
